Carol Dallas Grant February 11, 1934 - January 25, 2025

Carol Dallas (Martin) Grant’s Story
Carol Grant passed away on Saturday, January 25th just how she wanted: peacefully in her home, knowing her children and grandchildren love her.
Born in Seattle in 1934, Carol and her brother, Curtis Martin, were raised by their parents, Earl and Ethel Martin, in Alderwood Manor.  They made it through the Great Depression with hard work and grit growing a family business, Martin Fuel, later to become C. Martin Trucking.

Carol was an extraordinary woman who broke barriers, bulldozing her way through a male-dominated era—most notably as the first woman admitted into the School of Engineering at UW.

She began her career at Bell Labs in New York before marrying and moving to New Orleans, Louisiana, where her eldest son, John, was born. The family later settled in San Mateo, California, where Carol welcomed two more children, Vince and Carrie.  She was deeply engaged in her community, especially in the performing arts. She often hosted performers from around the world for the War Memorial Opera House, filling their home with color and culture.

Following a divorce, Carol returned to Washington with her three children, building a home next to her mother.  She embarked on a new career in real estate with Sherlock Homes before boldly pursuing yet another challenge—becoming a CPA. Approaching her 50th birthday, she returned to the University of Washington and earned her CPA certification, ultimately building a successful career at Ernst & Johnson, where she spent over two decades helping clients with their taxes.

Carol was an adventurer at heart, traveling across the globe to experience different cultures. Many of her journeys were shared with her mother and daughter.  She was an avid skier, both on water and snow, taking her children on countless camper trips to lakes and mountains.
Carol will be remembered as a woman of excellence, raising her kids to be independent with her strength and determination.

Carol is survived by her loving family:
 John Grant, with his children, Aurora, Logan, and Tatianna.
 Vince Grant and his wife, Traci Grant, with their children, Emilie, Carly, and Cole.
 Carrie Grant Worra and her husband, Dan Worra, with their children, William and
Carmen.
A private Celebration of Life will be held in her honor. May her memory continue to inspire and
bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
