Jennie Lea Muehlberger, aged 73, passed away at her home in Gold Bar, Washington, on November 22, 2024. Born on July 16, 1951, to Don and Dorothy Mercer in Idaho, Jennie was the beloved third child in a family of five. Her early years were spent in North Bend, Washington, before moving to Sultan, where she completed her high school education.
In the early 1970s, Jennie embraced the rugged beauty of Alaska, making her home in Port Protection and Sitka. There, she dedicated her life to working on fishing boats and at the Raptor Center, reflecting her deep love for God’s creation. Jennie’s heart was always open to all creatures, great and small, as she lovingly fed eagles, small birds, and even raccoons. Her passion for nature was matched only by her devotion to nurturing children, sharing with them her love of learning and the wonders of the natural world.
Jennie’s faith was a guiding light throughout her life, providing her with strength and comfort. Her gentle spirit and unwavering belief in a higher power brought peace to those around her, and she is now at rest in the loving embrace of the Lord.
Preceded in death by her parents, Don and Dorothy Mercer, and her brother, Gary Mercer, Jennie leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. She is survived by her sister, Sherry Hill; sister, Verailee (Bruce) Kalfas; brother, Bill (Shari) Mercer; and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jennie’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the impact she had on their lives. May her soul find eternal peace.
