Joan Maria Kirk passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, at the age of 93. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and homemaker
Joan was born in Utrecht, Holland in 1931 to Huigo Vrooman and Cornelia Maria Maaswinkle. After World War II, she married John Kirk and they traveled to Australia as an unsponsored immigrant’s in 1956. In Australia, she welcomed two sons while supporting her husband in his new career with AMF-Sterling Australia.
Joan and John became a naturalized Australian citizen in 1961. In 1966, John accepted a new job and the Kirk family moved to United States, on a work sponsored permanent visa. They settled in Bon Air Virginia where John worked in Richmond for AMF. The Kirks lived there until 1975 when John accepted a new opportunity at Formost Packaging Inc. in Washington State. John passed away in 1979, but Joan continued to raise and support their two sons as they graduated from college and embarked on their own lives.
Joan enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, ceramics, crafts and gardening. She was a lifetime member of quilters anonymous. Throughout her life she loved dogs with Corgis as her favorite breed. In 1996, Joan became a naturalized U.S. citizen and relocated from Kirkland, Washington, to Lake Stevens, Washington in 2001.
Joan is survived by her 2 sons, Michael and Steven and 4 great grand children.
