Lee Carol Birks (Ratliff)

September 2, 1959 – April 19, 2024

 

Lee Carol Birks, better known as “Carol” by family and friends departed her loving family on April 19, 2024 succumbing to her two year battle with cancer.

Carol was born in Columbia, Mississippi on September 2, 1959 to Clenton and Claree Ratliff. She was one of seven children. After graduating from Columbia HighSchool, Carol enlisted in the United States Air Force. After completing a term and receiving an honorable discharge Carol relocated to California where she met and married Calvin Birks. Together they have two sons, Clenton and Christopher. After divorcing many years later Carol and her sons moved back to Mississippi where she met Ralph Bankhead and together they shared a daughter Destiny Bankhead, before finding permanent residency in Washington State.

Carol was known for her relentless work ethic. She worked as a “Prior Authorization Specialist” with Virginia Mason Medical Group for over 15 years, while also working in the hotel industry for over 20 years. Carol was well liked and respected by her colleagues for her kind nature, hard work, attention to detail, impeccable attendance and her willingness to always help. Carol enjoyed baking sweet treats and spending time with her grandkids.

Carol is mother to Clenton Birks, Christopher Birks and Destiny Bankhead. She raised her children with love and devotion. Carol is survived by her siblings: Marilyn Campbell, Thelma Bakerville, Rosia Spruill, and Clifton Ratliff, her two daughter in-laws Paris Birks and Tanisha Birks. Grandchildren: Clenton Birks Jr, Troy Conley, Cairo Birks,

Camden Birks, Cherish Birks and Christopher J. Birks, her best friend LeeAnne Cave and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carol is preceded in death by her mother who passed away when Carol was just 10 years old, her father, sister Leanna and brother Sherman.
