Roger James Langston, passed away in December 2024 at the age of 86 from complications of Parkinson’s. He was born in Iowa on August 17, 1938. Roger grew up on a farm in Minnesota where he learned hard work, resilience, and love of family and friends. Despite the many challenges he faced, he lived a life filled with adventure and deep connections to those around him. He loved the outdoors, helping to care for the farm animals and delivering newspapers on his bike. At thirteen he was hired to work after school and weekends at the local logging mill.
After graduating from high school, Roger went on to many odd jobs in multiple states before joining the Army at age nineteen. He was stationed in Colorado, Oklahoma and Germany. After serving his country, Roger began his career as a lineman, working in Carson City Nevada, Lake Tahoe California, and settling in Hood River Oregon. His work in the electrical industry was a testament to his strong work ethic, reliability, and dedication. It was a profession that allowed him to build lasting connections with colleagues and friends, many of whom became like family to him over the years.
As an adult Roger’s adventurous pastimes included learning how to fly, (re)building airplanes, hunting with both rifle and bow, and fishing in his favorite spots. He spent many years enjoying his time playing on a fast-pitch softball team. In retirement he enjoyed his snowbird time in Yuma Arizona, where he enjoyed riding his ATV in the foothills and golfing with his friends. His last few years were spent closer to his children in Everett WA, where he continued to make new friends at Washington Oakes Retirement community.
Roger was preceded in death by his father Perry, his mother Vivien, his two brothers, Ralph and John, and a son, Carl, who passed away at birth. He is survived by his three children, Kurt Langston (spouse Diane), Darla Knutzen (spouse Tye), and Jason Langston (spouse Shannon), his three sisters, Evalyn, Carol, Claire, his brother Alan, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
